How to Grow:
Turmeric can be planted 2-4 weeks after your first spring frost throughout the summer. You can see specific dates for your location using our FREE iOS, Android, and Universal Web App.
Turmeric is planted 1-2 inches into the soil, 1 per square foot, in the full sun to part sun. Take care to notice what plants are around the area as well, see the companion plant section below. Water your turmeric weekly. Make sure that your soil drains well.
Companion Plants:
Companion planting is a vital part of organic gardening. Companion plants assist in the growth of others by attracting beneficial insects, repelling pests, or providing nutrients, shade, or support. There are also plants that do not like being next to each other. Some plants get too tall and can provide too much shade for your plant. Sometimes certain plants attract the same pests, so it is important to try and separate these.

Harvesting:
Turmeric is ready to harvest within approximately 7-10 months. Harvest your turmeric in the spring or summer of the year following planting. You will notice the leaves begin to turn yellow which will signify that it is ready to harvest. Simply pull the turmeric plant directly from the soil. Break the foliage off from the turmeric root and bring root inside. You can break a small (1-2 inch) section to replant to grow more again if desired.
