St John’s Wort: How to Grow and When to Plant in Your Backyard or Patio Garden!

St John’s Wort blog post
St John’s Wort is commonly known for its medicinal purposes. What is not as commonly known is just how beautiful this plant’s flowers are! Beneficials such as bees and butterflies will be drawn to this beauty in your yard as well helping to pollinate your garden. St John’s Wort makes a terrific companion plant for many of your other plants!

How to Grow:

St John’s Wort can be planted indoors to get a head start on your season 6-8 weeks before your last spring frost. You can transplant outdoors or plant directly by seed after the last spring frost and up until 8 weeks before the first fall frost. You can see specific dates for your location using our FREE iOS, Android, and Universal Web App.

St John’s Wort will be planted 1 per square foot. We like to put them into Smart Pot containers because they can be invasive and grow quite large if not pruned or regularly. St John’s Wort will require full sun to partial shade and consistent watering. Take care to notice what plants are around the area as well, see the companion plant section below.
