How to Freeze & Preserve Peppers/Jalapenos From Your Garden So You Have Them All Winter!

Peppers are one of those things that we absolutely love to grow in our garden! We always plant so many each year to make sure to have plenty out there to preserve!

Peppers are one of those things that we absolutely love to grow in our garden! It adds so much color out there and the kids love to watch them grow. We always plant so many each year to make sure to have plenty out there. One large benefit from this is the fact that we have not bought a single pepper from the store now in several years! One way we preserve our extra peppers is by freezing them to have all year round. It is simple to do and saves us a lot of time and money in the winter time! Here is how we do it:

  1. Remove all stems (and seeds if desired).
  2. Place peppers in food processor. Using a food processor helps save SOOOO much time instead of having to sit there and chop them up by hand!freezepeppers2
  3. Lay pieces of peppers flat on cookie sheet covered with parchment paper and place in freezer for 24 hours.freezepeppers3
  4. After 24 hours remove cookie sheet from freezer and transfer frozen peppers to freezer-safe plastic bags for longer-term storage in the freezer.freezepeppers4

When I want peppers in the winter I simply pull the bag out of the freezer and grab the amount I want with a spoon. I then place it directly into a pan with olive oil to saute for whatever I am making! We like to combine all of our peppers and freeze them together so we have a colorful mixture when we pull them out, but you can separate if you would like. I hope you are able to preserve your peppers and make it so you don’t have to buy these from the store anymore either! 🙂

  1. I prefer to chop them coarsely to freeze them, but have not done so in years. I have been without a freezer for a long time. The only option to freezing is pickling, which is good, but does not leave good ‘plain’ peppers for recipes in the off season.
