How to Grow:

You can start seeds or cuttings indoors 6-12 weeks before the last spring frost and place them outside in the early springtime. You can see specific dates for your location using our FREE iOS, Android, and Universal Web App.

Seeds are planted 1/8in deep. You will want to space plants out to around 1 every 1-2 square foot. Lavender will need full sun, but will tolerate part shade. Take care to notice what plants are around the area as well, see the companion plant section below. Expect your lavender seeds to sprout within 14-28 days. Water your lavender approximately 1-2 times per week when dry.

Companion Plants:

Companion planting is a vital part of organic gardening. Companion plants assist in the growth of others by attracting beneficial insects, repelling pests, or providing nutrients, shade, or support. There are also plants that do not like being next to each other. Some plants get too tall and can provide too much shade for your plant. Sometimes certain plants attract the same pests, so it is important to try and separate these. Herbs are especially great companion plants because they help to repel pests from your other plants!

Harvesting:

Lavender will be ready to harvest within 70-98 days (from cuttings) and 126-161 days (from seed). You can begin to harvest lavender once it begins to bud. Lavender may be dried and stored for later use. To dry for later use simply hang upside down in a cool, dark place for approximately 2 weeks.

Cooking & Eating!

Although lavender can be utilized in some baking recipes, it is more commonly added to teas or used simply as a fragrance in homemade soaps or lotions. It’s also used commonly as an insect repellent or to help with first aid or insect bites.
