How to Add a Custom Plant in the Seed to Spoon App

Can’t find a plant in the Seed to Spoon app? No problem! With our custom plant feature, you can easily add any plant you’re growing—even rare or unusual varieties. Whether you're entering details manually or scanning a seed packet, this step-by-step guide will show you exactly how to make sure your garden is fully personalized and your planting dates stay on track.

In the Seed to Spoon app, we already have over 150 growing guides for fruits, vegetables, herbs, flowers—you name it! But what if you’re growing something unique that isn’t listed yet?

Good news—you can add your own custom plant right from within the app!

Where to Add a Custom Plant

From the Growing Guides section:

  1. Tap the “Add Custom Plant” button in the bottom-right corner.

  2. You’ll see two options:

    • Scan Seed Packet – Snap a photo of your seed packet and we’ll autofill the info.

    • Enter Manually – Don’t have a packet? You can type in all the details yourself.

Once added, your custom plant will appear in your Growing Guides list, and we’ll calculate your personalized planting dates based on your location and frost dates.

Adding a Custom Plant in the Visual Garden Layout

You can also add a custom plant while working in your Visual Garden Planner:

  1. Tap the “+” icon to add a plant to your layout.

  2. On the next screen, tap the “Add Custom Plant” button.

  3. Just like before, choose to scan a seed packet or enter details manually.

This lets you place any plant you want directly into your garden layout!

Need a Plant Added to the App?

I’m always adding new plants based on what you all request—so if there’s a plant you want to see added permanently to the app, just let me know!

And as always, if you have any questions about the app or features, feel free to reach out.

Happy gardening!
