Q: How do I know how much sun my plants require?

A: Each plant will require different amounts of sunlight. Some plants thrive in full sun while others need some shade in order to grow. It is important to look at these requirements before planting so you are making sure that you are meeting your plants sunlight needs. There are sunlight calculators that you can purchase as well to calculate how much sun a specific area in your garden receives if you are in doubt. sun(1)Full sun simply means to have at least 6-8 hours of direct sunshine during the day.
 
sunPart sun/part shade plants will require 3-6 hours of sunlight. These plants typically prefer shade in the afternoon.
 
cloudShade plants do not like direct sunlight, especially in the afternoon. If they are going to receive any direct sunlight, keep it minimal to just the morning.
