Cabbage takes up a lot of space in the garden, but it’s very easy to grow and stores longer than most vegetables. Cabbage worms, as their name implies, love cabbage as much as we do; however, they’re easy to manage!
How to Grow:
Cabbage can be planted indoors as early as 8-10 weeks before your last spring frost and 16 weeks before your last spring frost. They can be transplanted 4-6 weeks before your last spring frost and 10 weeks before your first fall frost. Cabbage seeds are planted 1/4 inch deep, 1 per square foot, in the full sun. Take care to notice what plants are around the area as well, see the companion plant section below. Cabbage will sprout in approximately 5-8 days. Provide a heavy amount of water until the head forms, then back off to moderate.

Cabbage heads will be ready to harvest in approximately 60-90 days. Harvest anytime after heads start to develop and feel firm. Don’t wait too long, though, or they’ll split! Harvest by slicing the entire head off from the base.
