What We’re Planting in August!

This is a list of what we’re planting in August in our zone 7 urban Oklahoma backyard food farm. Click on the name of the vegetable to view more information about growing or preparing that particular plant.

Beans (Bush) 9  
Beets 9 or 16 The greens are great as well!
Broccoli 1 Plant the entire square and thin down to 1, eating the thinnings
Cabbage 1 Plant the entire square and thin down to 1, eating the thinnings
Carrots 16  
Chinese Cabbage 4 Plant the entire square and thin down to 4
Chives 16  
Collard Greens 1 Plant the entire square and thin down to 1
Lettuce (Leaf) 16 Needs afternoon shade until < 80 degrees F
Mustard 1 Plant the entire square and thin down to 1
Peas 8 Plant along trellis
Radish 16 Plant around zucchini to help with squash bugs
Swiss Chard 4 Plant the entire square and thin down to 9
Turnips 9  
Zucchini 1 Plant with radish to help with squash bugs
